Question
just adopted a blm weanling to replace my yearing who died from sand colic. i feed my other horses a barley, oat, wheat, alfalfa mix. How should i supplement that feed for a weanling?

Answer
Hi Raymeichle,
I would give both horses a complete feed like a senior feed. I would also add beet pulp and 1/2 a cup of vegtable oil. If you can give them free choice grass hay. Alfalfa is not the best thing to give to a horse and unless you are using a rice barley you can cause the horse to have a loose stool. The beet pulp also takes the place of some hay.
