Hello
my horse has been losing the color in his hair (bay to flecked white) and i believe it was from not enough minerals because we started to feed him someother sort of food other than hay and grass and it came back for a while. i do not know what was in the food that we fed him so do u have any ideas on what might have been giving him the mineral or vitamin supplement that would cause him to regain his coloring? would it be like a certain type of pellet or corn or something?
Thank you

first of all I hope you have a good worming program, as this could cause the type of problem you describe.

I do not know the quality of hay your are feeding. Horses do very well with nothing but hay if it is high quality, and the hay provides just about all the minerals and vitamins they need. You do however need clean, green, quality hay. you would need about 25 lbs per 1000 lb horse.

adjust the amount down if you are giving grain.Pretty much pound for pound so the total (hay + grain) stays around the 25lb/1000 range.

Omelene is a good feed and has all the addatives your horse may need

Answer
OMELENE IS A READY MIXED FEED MADE BY PURINA.

EATING ALL THE HAY THAY WANT IS THE RIGHT IDEA, BUT IF THE QUALITY IS POOR IT WILL TURN OUT TO BE MORE COSTLEY THAN A BRIGHT QUALITY GREEN HAY THE SMELLS GOOD ENOUGH TO EAT YOURSELF. EVEN THAT IS NO GUARANTEE, AS HAY IS ONLY AS GOOD AS THE LAND IT WAS GROWN ON, AND UNLESS WE PUT IT UP OURSELVES, THERE IS NO WAY TO DETERMINE THAT.
