horse has a cough

Hello Dorothy,
We have a horse and I noticed in the last few days that he has been coughing not a lot but enough for me to notice. Last night when I called him over to feed he sounded like he had asthma. He was wheezing after walking up our hill. I'm a little worried since we haven't had horses for very long and not sure what to do. Do you have any advice for me.. Thank you, Barbara

Hello Barbara,

It might be a simple allergy. My advice is for you call your vet to have the horse checked out.  Could be dust from the hay, or even the hay itself.  Pollen is in the air now also and horses suffer from allergic reactions also.

Then again, it might be something serious, so call the vet.
