Question
My horse has an abcess foot and I need to know what to do about it.. I will appreciate any help you may give me.. thank you, Vera

Answer
hi vera,
you need to have the vet or shoer come out to cut a hole so it can drain. preferably a vet. if it is inside the hoof then they will cut a hole so it can drain. if it is on the cornet band then you can cut it yourself when it is ready. it will be ready when the puss build up enough to wear it looks like it is going to pop. but if is in the hoof then you need a vet to come out and check it. once it is open then you should keep it clean and soak it in Epsom salt about twice a day. also bute will help with the pain it should be 2-3 grams a day mixed in with their food. good luck and keep me updated. if you have any other questions then just let me know.
