Underweighr horse

I have a 19.1 hand percheron I rescued from slaughter about a month ago hes on senital grain and grass hay hes gaining but not enough my mom and I dont know what to feed him he was amancipated I need to know what to feed him for him to gain weight he was eating beat pulp should I feed him both or switch grain?And hes pushy I dont know realy how to control something that large his huge I have to be alittle rough on him I dont like to but hes so big and I dont like horses pushing me around I want to no how to control him alittle better than what I can now Www

Tried to answer this on phone, had to revise some.

Stop trying to fix things fast with horses - it took time to get that thin and starved, it will take time to gain weight

Too much grain will kill a horse and do more damage, a common mistake for people who save horses.

Alfalfa hay three or four times a day and grass hay all time so the horse can graze all day and have to wait for food.

Read my wed site I cover this topic. Stop asking people what to do - you don't know what you are doing and neither does your mom from what you are telling me.

It is nice you saved the horse but if you don't research and learn how to give good care then you may end up Killing the horse you saved, it happens all the time.

As for the horse being pushy - no kidding a starved dying horse does not have the energy or strength to push very much. As the horse gets stronger and healthier you better learn how to talk to a horse and how to understand horses. It is not like any other pet.
