long pastern problems

hello madam, does long pastern horses have a lot of trouble?? i mean, getting cuts on the tendons. is it right to race them unshod??can you please list all the disadvantages of long pasterns and why it is a bad confirmation???

it is not bad but it is not good. a horse with long pasterns is more likely to over reach and clip its self. it is also more likely to blow a tendon because it is flexing more and pulling the tendons more. it does not matter if they are shoes or not. horses with shoes have better grip but provide the right protection for them. any horse that clips or over reaches should wear bell boots when ridden.
