Question
Hi. My name is Carolyn, I am 14 years old, and I have an eight year old quarter horse gelding. He is very sweet, and loves attention! The only thing is that when I free lunge him, he will go into a very fast gallop, and kick out. I don't know what to do with him!! I really hope you can help!!
Thanks so much!
Carolyn

Answer
Dear Carolyn,
Sometimes horses can get excited enough to kick out, but sometimes it is a personality thing. You must keep lunging him until he does not kick out. The moment he breaks into a gallop and does not kick out give him a treat IMMEADIATLY!! Then ask him to do it again. It will take ALOT of time and patience you just need to remember that horses are not like people, they do not understand what is wrong in our eyes. So you must be the one to teach him that it is wrong.
If he does not do it when you are riding him then it may just be a excitement thing, we have a stallion who rears up whenever he sees a cat and goes to try and sniff it because he loves cats.
