Hi,
What is a good age for a mare to have her first foal and a stallion too?
-----Answer-----
Hello Kimberley,
It is wise to have a mare/stallion that is well trained to saddle or whatever you would like the horse trained to. If they are well trained then they have the intelligence, and respect for people that all breeding horse MUST have. It is unwise to breed a horse that will "Walk all over you" unless you choose to use the mare as a broodmare only in which case she should have excellent ground manners. But some horses Like the Arabian for instance Mature around 4-5 years old. Be sure that the stallion is properly trained to avoid any accidents because stallions can be very unpredictable. If you would e-mail me and tell me your horses breed Mare and Stallion, I can give you more insight on when you should breed them.

Answer
Dear Kimberley,
Most quarter horses are ready to be trained around 3 years old, and mature to be bred around 5-6. Usually breeding under 5-6 years old can hurt your horse because it's not reached it's "Peak" meaning it's strongest period. My stallion before i got him was bred at 2 years old and he is needless to say "Weaker" Then horses that are bred later in life.
I hope i helped you
