Fighting the bit - Rick Gore Horsemanship

Question
QUESTION: I bought our 12 yr old quarter horse dapple Shadow a couple of months ago from a horse auction, for my husband to ride.  The horse did very well and several different people rode him including me at the auction.  When I got him home he was still well behaved but when I went to put a bridle on him he freak out!  He would back up, toss his head and rear constantly.  I have tried many different bits including snaffles, curbs and a correction bit.  He fights every bit I have been able to put in his mouth, he chews and tosses his head the whole time I am on him.  I have tried also to put a hackamore on him and he didn't listen to a single command I gave him.  I can get the bit in his mouth with a treat now but he still chews the bit, tosses his head and acts like he doesn't like it. I have always been around horses but this puzzles me, I have checked his mouth and made sure he has no cuts or sensitive areas on his head.  Other then this problem he is a very sweet and loving horse. Can you please help me!

ANSWER: You have got to be kidding me? You obvious did not do any research before asking me this questions and you will not like my answer.

You don't know what you are doing and you are causing this horse to do what it does. So of course you going to get mad at me and blame for not understanding and not knowing what I am talking about.

Had you read my website or watched any of my videos on Youtube, you would know you are going to get me irritated when you write me a questions and start blaming the horse or calling the horse names. This horse is NOT fighting the bit, he is fighting YOU. He is not freaking out you are forcing him and pushing him and causing him to freak out.

You have tired "correction bits" that is the stupidest thing I have heard. You want to make this a bit or horse problem, maybe it was the weather, then you can blame the night time or sun light.

You asked me the question, so here is my answer. If you learn how to be a better horse person then this horse will be a better horse.

This is not a horse issue, it is like most so called horse problems, They are really PEOPLE problems.

If you don't like my answer or take on this, good, Now you know how your horse feels.

QUESTION: Okay I don't understand what this is about?, Maybe I should have given more detail. When I first got him he freaked out but now when I put his bridle on (he doesn't fight it, he simply opens his mouth to except it) but after the bit is in his mouth all he does is chew (to me it looks like his is licking it and trying to move it to make it comfortable?) the bit and tosses his head a little (like it annoys him like a fly), he does what I ask him to do, he doesn't fight me and I don't fight him while we are riding. I have two other horses and but I use hackamores on them and they like them. I was thinking he didn't like the bit and maybe I was using a bit different from what he was used to using, so I tried different ones, but I could be wrong. Also I have spoken to several people and read articles, books about people having the same problem but they only led to something wrong with the horses mouth, which was what I though it was but the vet said there is nothing wrong or the bit is too small or too big or the horse was trained on a certain bit and only likes that one, but I still have a lot to learn since I don't know much about this subject on bits. I thought I would ask you since a friend told me about you. Sorry, I didn't think I was blaming my horse and didn't realize that I could be the problem. Thanks for your help on this matter.

Answer
People that write me blind questions are not normally serious, they are just searching for someone to tell them something.

YOU knowing you learning, you doing your homework makes you better, when you get better your horse problems go away. Find your own answers, do your own research, don't make yourself dependent on me or anyone else, it is about you and your horse.

I put a big website up with lots of in, I put out a lot of FREE videos on youtube, I can in about the first sentence if someone asking the question has read or watched my videos.  If it is not important to you, it is not important to me.

As for you not blaming the horse, you said he freaked out, you said you used a correction bit, which is basically more painful than other bits, pain does not work with horses and since you said this, it is obvious that you don't get this or you would NEVER put a correction bit on a horse that is already having issues with other bits.

If you had read my site you would know my opinion and dislike of bits and would of either worded your questions differently or asked someone else since YOU seem so focused on the BIT.

Almost all my vids and web site make it clear that "it is never the horse's fault" that only leaves People as the problem. For you to say that you didn't realize you could be the problem, really just confirms what I got from your first question.

I don't do what I do to help people,  I do it to help horses get a better deal from people.
