drop noseband on polo ponies

hello Lyn. may i know why do people use drop noseband on polo ponies? why such a harsh equipment? why not a figure 8 noseband?

If you've watched polo you see how they yank on the horses' mouths when they are trying to follow the ball.  They don't want the horse evading the bit by opening it's mouth and the drop noseband does this way better than a figure 8.  Just the lazy way, rather than training the horse better which takes a lot of time.  People want results instantly.  A lot of equipment has been developed that way.
