Hoof boots for arthritis relief?

Question
Hello:
My horse has diagnosed arthritis in her front fetlocks and in her hocks.  She is kept barefoot and I am curious to know if hoof boots have been shown to help absorb shock and relieve stress to the joints.  Thanks for the help!

Answer
HELLO CASSANDRA...THANKS FOR YOUR QUESTION...

IT COULD !?!?  Most protective shoes/boots that I've tested through
the past 18/20 yrs. are mostly for protecting the hoof capsule itself
and naturally giving some comfort to the sole/frog for "temporary"
relief.

HERE IS MY "IF"...if you live in the South/Gulf-coast/Southern
plains where humidity is a factor...then sometimes with long rides
YOU WILL get a sore/irritated coronary band or so much sweat and
moisture from the ride will cause havoc with the hoof walls;
especially if you have a thin walled horse.

Water/moisture is necessary but too much can be "evil" to the hoof capsules!!

The brand "Mac-boots" seem to have alot of support and should cushion.
Every horse is different. What "should" work with one, won't work with another.

Another thought is a generic glucosamine injectable you can purchase from your veterinarian. The cost is "excellent" if you don't mind giving an injection everyother week. I have 30 some-odd clients using it and very good results. Works through the whole body naturally.
Better than anything you can give orally to your horse.
