hooves growing outward

we have a 5 yr old miniature gelding who hooves are growing outward. what can cause this problem? we had them trimmed about 1 month ago

Hi Deanna ... I would strongly recommend that you read this: http://www.barefoottrim.com/2007/balance/balance.htm  Compare your mini's hooves with what you see there in terms of balance and level landmarks. I suspect that if your little guy is toeing out that the hooves are imbalanced and need to be properly trimmed.

On the other hand he may have a conformational fault that predisposes him to turning out. Without photos or seeing him, tho, its impossible to tell which.
