Question
hello sir. what is the correct age to shoe a horse? i mean to say, at what age of the horse, the hoof wall becomes hard enough to get shod?

Answer
HELLO ROHIT...THANK YOU FOR YOUR QUESTION...

FIRST OFF...I want to apologize for being late. Have been gone working and my wireless connection was NOT working !!

Basically, most breeds of horses are 80% mature at 2yrs of age. Some earlier/later according to the different breeds.

You should ONLY shoe a horse for two reasons..."protection or correction". If the hooves are
being trimmed every 5/6/7 weeks at the most, then shoes will probably be NOT necessary.
ALSO...depending on the breed, as with their body growth, horse's hooves will grow larger and wider with maturity till 4-5 yrs of age. AGAIN...provided that their hooves are kept trimmed on
a regular schedule.

SO...there is no actual "correct age" it's more or less if they need them.
I wouldn't shoe one under 2yrs, unless their was an orthopedic problem or the veterinarian
ordered it for the horses well-being !!

AGAIN...Sorry for being late and The Best to You !!
