hello, may i know why white legged horses are more prone to cracked heels? can you tell me whether the heels crack in all horses irrespective of any color leg they have?

Answer
Ahhhh, OK ... you mean the heel bulbs and "Scratches". Scratches is a bacterial/fungal infection that infects the skin of the horse.  Wet/dry cycles causes the skin on the back of the pastern to chap. Then the various microorganisms that are already in the environment or on your horse's skin take advantage of these tiny cracks to invade and multiply, leading to redness, pain, swelling and even oozy discharge that crusts over. It's best to speak with your veterinarian about this and see what he/she advises for treatment.
