caster oil for horse feet

hello sir. at our local racing stables, trainers prefer caster oil to be applied on horse hooves. may i know why only caster oil?

MAY BE that's the "easiest" thing to get or purchase??
It,s alright... but it,s alittle thick & won't penetrate the hoof wall or coronary band well !!

A Tea tree oil, sunflower oil or such that is thinner, would work better in my opinion.
