Hello is it possible to use a shop light fixture to hold the uv bulb?

Would it be possible to use a clamp lamp from hardware stores to hold the basking bulb?

Bulbs that generate a lot of heat need fixtures that are made of porcelain and have no regular plastic parts. You can buy these in larger hardware stores, farm suply stores, etc.

A metal reflector is OK as long as the animals or keepers cannot touch it directly and get burned. Many fixtures designed for heating bulbs have some sort of guard over the front but it is usually not enough for protection from a snake or lizard.
