My daughter has 2 small painter turtles.  She thinks that the female is preganent.  If she is, how many eggs will she lay?

Answer
Assuming the turtle has access to a nesting site and lays them in a nest, she will lay between 8 and 30 eggs. They usually don't lay eggs until they are sexually mature- about 4 years old. You can usually tell a pregnant female by the bulge of the eggs around her legs.

Young or first-time layers often lay infertile eggs the first couple years.
