Question
I have a red eared slider of about 3 inches.. I'm not sure about its sex but I think it's a female, about a year old.
It got that disease of the swollen eyes when I first got it, I mean it already had it when I bought it but I managed to take care of it though
Today I noticed strange behaviors it's doing... Blinking much more frequent that usual, closing it's eyes most of the time (it's like they're hurting it but it still opens them for a second or two to see its way), pooping also more frequent and when I carried it this morning it opened its mouth but not as to bite.
Could you tell me if it's the swollen eyes again or something else
I'm deeply concerned but I don't know what to do.

Answer
Hi Sara,

Your turtle is a little small to sex--all turtles look female until they're mature.  It's hard to say what could be wrong with your turtle based on the information you gave me, but many (most) health issues with turtles are due to being kept in improper conditions, so let's start with how you have it set up.  If you can post back with more details, I should be able to give you better advice.

I need to know:  the tank size, the type of filter, type/brand of basking and UVB bulb(s), the exact water and basking temperatures, and complete diet.  Please be as specific as you can.  It's likely that there is a problem with the tank being too small, inadequate filtration (poor water quality), lack of UVB, or improper diet.  I'll try to get back to you as soon as I can once you post back.
