QuestionYesterday a painted turtle buried some eggs in at least two spots in the parking area of my property. I'd like to find out what the gestation period might be & what, if anything, I should do to protect the egg deposit sites.
AnswerThey dig frequent 'test nests', so there might not be eggs in either spot.
The eggs will usually hatch out in 2-3 months, but it may be 20 to 340 days.
As a rule of thumb, I would leave the possible nests pretty much alone. Some people fence them in one way or another.
