Question
Hi, Thanks for any help.  My neighbor said (s)he is a box turtle but she doesn't seem to fit any of the pictures. Rim of shell has 24 small circles, down the center 5 circles, one either side of the 5 are 4 circles.  The area around the circles is creamy whitish green and the center of the circles is black (almost looks painted but I don't think it is). Her tail is 3/4 in and her body is about 5 in.  She has 4 claws on each foot and the back legs look like pencils only slightly larger in diameter. She is only about 1 1/2 in tall.  The bottom of her shell is flat and has 2 of each of 4 different designs, these are also black.  They range from large to extra large to medium to small in size (from head end to tail) and there seems to be a line going down the center.  On her head she has about 5 black spots starting between her eyes and going toward her body.  Again, thank you for any help you can give.

Answer
Even though you are giving a lot of information, none of it really helps much. It sounds most like a Diamondback Terrapin, but can be several other species. If it was found in the wild, you can do a Google search for "[your state} turtles". Most states keep a photo archive of their animals somewhere.

You can also post a photo at a good forum like http://www.turtleforum.com where it is easier to do than it is here.

Good luck!
