care of turtle

Question
We found a turtle on the road today and went back to take it off the road.  But the turtle was bleeding from a small hole on the right side of her shell - where the top and bottom meet.  I took her home and put ointment on the opening.  I soaked her in a clean liter box with warm water and she is outside in a chicken tractor now.
she is very big, I presume old.
Should I let her go or care for her until the shell starts to heal - based on your website, that could take a month - going into late oct/early nov here.  Nights are already in the 50s and 60s.
thanks!

Answer
Hello Diane,

Do you know what kind of turtle she is?

You can care for her until she starts to heal, to prevent possible infection. Turtles will hibernate though if it is cold so she will be fine in the weather as long as she can defend herself.

It's your call but there is nothing wrong with either decision.
