Question
I have an african spur-thighed tortoise. His shell is not rounded though, it kind of dips down a little bit in the middle and it moves when he brethes. he seems fine, he is acting normally but im not sure if im feeding him correctly. any suggestions? also, i have been feeding him grass, vegetables and fruits but im not sure if he should have something else. i have read that he needs fiber and calcium and im not sure which food will give that to him. i also read a book and it had a make your own recipe of mixed foods to mash up for a tortoise. in the recipe it says to add ground beef, im not sure if it should be cooked or raw. any help you can offer me would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

Answer
It sounds like an old injury. I would take it to a vet for X-rays to make sure the injury is not going to cause problems.

Any diet plan that recommends hamburger is suspect. Hamburger is not really safe for any kind of turtle.

A great tortoise diet site is: http://www.petdoc.ws/TortDiet.html

A good general site is:

Good luck!
