Question
My red ear slider is breathing with its mouth open at times. It is about 3cm long.Is it a breathing problem because I have read of it in books. Should it see a vet? I have a UVA lamp and feeds it a mix of pellets, river shrimp, bloodworms, blueberries, blackberries and strawberries(not all at once). I had it for 5 months already.

Answer
Check out http://www.turtleforum.com for good advice from experienced keepers- I don't keep water turtles.

You might also want to try http://www.redearslider.com for good care ideas. UVA really does not help a lot, and turtles don't really need fruit.

Open-mouth breathing by itself is not much of a sign. If it is making noise, see a vet. Otherwise, try the above forum.
