Question
my african sulcata 3&1/2 yrs old has not eaten for this the 2nd day I wentut found him sunning but had a blood streak running down his shell and looked to be like something cut thru his shell 1/4 to 1/2 inch long and one above his tail, what do I do?

Answer
Hi Annie,

If the injuries to your sulcata's shell have actually penetrated into the shell, he needs to go to the vet for treatment and a course of antibiotics.  For now, I'd keep him inside on newspaper or paper towels to keep him clean.  If you have some Nolvasan, you can dilute that and use it to clean the wounds, but don't put anything on them.  Keep him a couple of degrees warmer than usual, and keep his night heat up around 75 degrees.  Shell injuries can become infected easily, so get him into the vet tomorrow if you can.  Good luck!
