Desert Tortoise wakes up

Question
My Mojave desert tortoise began hibernation, as usual, during the second
week in October.  We are having a heatwave here in LA, and today he woke up
and scratched a lot on his door, so I let him come out and walk around for a
while. He didn't eat or drink, and now he's back in the box. Is it okay to just
leave him alone to go back to hibernating? What if he wakes up again during
the heatwave?
Thanks

Answer
It would be my recommendation that you consult a herp vet. It is my experience that he will be fine and maybe you can maintain coolness for him in another manor. Some will place in a cooler box and use a cooling system. Please have a vet consult however as they may have additional concerns.
