tango my tagerine aft
i have noticed in the past few days that my tangerine african fat tailed gecko has had something wrong with his tail i noticed this a few days ago and im taking it to the local reptile shop, it is like a burn but it cant be cause the heat mat isnt hot enough to burn anything and its all scabby it also looks like friction burn i have no idea what to do with him but i shall take him to the reptile shop and hopefully you could give me some advice too thanks very much

Hi Kieran, That's a very nice looking gecko. Has the affected area gotten larger since you discovered it? Is it possible that he caught his tail in some cage furnishing and what you are seeing is a laceration? I would suggest dabbing a bit of topical antibiotic ointment on it once a day. Polysporin is fine but I like to use Betadine ointment instead. It has a much broader spectrum and also has anti-fungal properties. It may take until his next shed before it resolves. If it starts to appear larger, or inflamed or leaks any fluid then a vet visit is really your best option.
