Question
Hi I have a female anole lizard that appears to have a swollen throat or tongue. She sometimes sits with her mouth open. She appears healthy otherwise, she eats, laps up water, tries her best to keep away from the male, gets along with the other female in the tank. I've looked online, but haven't found any info on a possible condition for this. I hope you can help. Thank you

Answer
Well, the fact that she is eating and drinking (and probably pooping) and moving around rules out a partial foreign body obstruction.  However, when any animal (or even human) has an unknown swelling or any sort of deformation, it is always best to have proper definitive medical attention as soon as you can.  It may be that the tongue was merely bitten by prey, but without an examination, well, you can't be sure.  Also the species of anole you don't mention.  Some lizards will swell under the chin or even flatten when stressed.  The species of anole you have perhaps she is merely reacting to the male's amorous attention.  In fact,  double check that she is a female and not what is known as a "sneaker" male.  In some species, submissive males will mimic females in the presence of a dominant male.
