Question
Hello, I recently got a gecko from a friend of mine, and when I asked them what kind of gecko it was, they had forgotten, they claim to have paid $90 for him. I live in Canada so I do not know if my location can varify what type of gecko it is, all the details I can give out are
Size: 1 - 2 /12 inches in length
Colours: Brown at the moment, yet to see colour change
Markings: hard to see any on him
that is all I can tell at the moment, I'm new to geckos, so I dont know any of the morphs, names or anything, if possible, could someone help me figure out what kind of gecko he may be, and whether or not he needs heat lamps or UV A/B's?

Answer
Hi DJ,
If you are able to post a pic of him that would help greatly. There are several hundred species of geckos and and add to that sub species so you can understand why without a picture or seeing the gecko it would be impossible to even venture a guess as to the species. Here is a link to several species..with pictures.. hopefully you can identify yours from there.

I would also look at an anole as if it is young, they can be that small and with the brown color, anoles are brown when stressed or don't have their needed available heat or uvb lighting.
If it is indeed a species of gecko, most are nocturnal which do not require uvb lighting, but can be provided...and also most will need some type of basking(warm) area but its important to have the correct temperature ranges for it.
Hopefully you are able to post a picture or identify yours from the link above and then I can try to better help you with information.
