Bloody urates

Question
My 4 year old beardie had surgery to remove a large tumor last week. The
tumor was on her liver & could not be removed.  She was full of tumors and
the results from the biopsy are not back yet. Several times this morning she
had normal poop but bloody urates.  Since today is Sunday our vet is closed,
and the emergency one that is open just told me to bring her in.  I hesitate to
due to the lack of results on the biopsy, and the stress it may cause on her
system if he ends up doing nothing but collecting a fee.  Is bloody urates an
emergency needing immediate attention? Will she bleed to death if I wait a
day?  Thank You so much for your help.

Answer
Stephanie,

Unfortunately, it really is impossible to say for sure what that could be. While it could be something life threatening, it could also just be due to the recent surgery. I wish I could provide something solid, but it just may not be knowable without actual inspection.

What I would do in this situation, and please realize this is just me, is I would wait for tomorrow. The current vet already knows the situation, and is the one best suited to help. If she were taken in to the emergency vet, and it were something that is life threatening to such a degree, there may be very little that can be done anyway. With that in mind, I would just try to make her comfortable, and hope for the best. If she is going to die, I'd rather it be stress-free in her own home. Again that is just my opinion, please don't see it as necessarily what the right thing is.

I'm sorry for the situation, and I know it can be tough ... we lost our favorite  beardie just two days ago without warning, who was also 4. It can be very difficult to decide how far to go, especially when there seems to be such a huge degree of difference between how much each vet knows about them.

Good luck to you and her.
