Breeding problems

Question
Hi, thanks 4 coming on here and answering my question. I have been looking 4 info on this subject 4 ages, but found nothing, so please, if u can, try and answer my question.

I haven 2 rabbits called Dandy and Angel. (I didn't chose the naff name Angel, she came with it, she was a rescue rabbit) I am probably going to breed Dandy, but I have a problem. Dandy and Angel are different ages and different breeds, and in no way related, but they're totally devoted 2 each other, and it upsets them 2 be apart. I have heard that when breeding a rabbit, I should seperate her from other rabbits, but it would upset both rabbits to be apart. What should I do? Also, if she is pregant, will she still be allowed to run round free in the garden all day, like she does at the moment? I just have one more question, if you don't mind. What is the chance that her litter will survive?

Thanks 4 your time,

Kloe :->

Answer
Hi Kloe,

I think if it upsets your rabbits to be apart so much, you probably shouldn't breed Dandy. Unless you would like to get the other rabbit another playmate. It sounds like they're well bonded but I think Dandy would be fine on her own if she was bred and the Angel would bond to another rabbit.
You could let Dandy run around the garden as she does now until about 20 days into the pregnancy. Then she will probably start to make a nest and have her babies onn the 30th day. But if you possibly could, I'd say it would be better to leave her in a hutch for the whole time, so she can get used to staying in.
I can't really give you a percentage that her litter will survive. A lot of first litters don't survive. If this is the case with Dandy's litter, doesn't mean that she's a bad mother. It happens. If it does, mate her straight back up as they are very fertile after giving birth and she will hope fully cotton on by the second time. Just don't get your hopes up too much for the first litter as it is not unusual to lose them.
Good luck whatever you decide to do

Hope this Helps
