Question
The baby was trapped in a pipe at the horses stable. (It had fallen down inside & couldn't get out.)  The kids got it out yesterday and have fed it KMR 2 times.  It's eyes are open, it's about 3 1/2 inches long, it's ears are about 3/4 inch long.  I understand it is ready for hay and greens at this stage.  Have some home garden carrot tops and lettuce to give it, and alfalfa hay from the stable.  Wondering how old it is, how to tell sex, and should we bring it to the vet?  It is bedded now in a hamster cage.  It is already unafraid of us, and readily takes the bottle.  I understand not to over feed it, but without knowing how old it is, it's hard to tell how much it should be receiving.  We sucessfully raised a baby squirrel some years ago (it was hairless & eyes still shut when it fell from the nest).  Again the questions are:  Wondering how old it is, how to tell sex, and should we bring it to the vet ... how much KMR is appropriate, etc.  Thanks for your help!

Answer
Hi Susan,

The rabbit is over 2 weeks old. I wouldn't say much more than 3 weeks.
I must warn you, wild rabbits do not make good pets even if they are hand-reared so you will probably need to release it when it is older. Domestic rabbits have been bred for years to get the correct temperament for a pet.
It's not very easy to tell the sex of the rabbit at the age it is now. You should probably leave that for another 3-4 weeks. I don't see any reason why you need to take it to the vet.

Hope this Helps
Toni
