Removing hard poo from fur

Question
I have a bunny who is disabled. We have vet care and all that. But how does one remove dried on poo? You know, that's like concrete and not easy to get off. Is there a good way to get it off? I'm learning as I go along.  Thanks a bunch! (Jenny thanks you too!)

UPDATE

Hi,

just wanted to add one thing I forgot.  Since you may not be able to feed him all his cecals because of this (or any depending), you may want to get some rabbit vitamin drops you can squirt into his water, or even drip a few drops onto his food pellets every day.  That will help him deal with the fact he can't get the (mostly B vitamins) he'd get being able to eat all his cecal pellets normally.

END UPDATE

Hi Janie,

thanks for taking care of this little guy.  Disable rabbits are some of the happiest rabbits.

There is one thing you can do that works fairly well.  A very lightly damp cotton washcloth, and a mens' plastic comb.  Alternate between the two.  Work the area of the clump with the washcloth, kind of grip the area with your hand in the washcloth and just work it a little, and after a bit pull a little and see if any comes with.  Then try a little bit on that area with the plastic bristles of the comb.  Keep alternating between the two and you will find you can get most of it out.  You may need to re-moisten the washcloth from time to time, but don't over-wet it.  You don't want to get the fur down there really wet.  Just the area you are working on, damp so that you can moisten the clumps to the point you can pull parts of them away, and comb out the rest.

There may be cases where some fur needs to be cut out.  I strongly suggest using a safety scissors (with rounded tips) I would not use any scissors with sharp points.  When you snip the fur, snip it like a stylist, with your fingers in between your rabbits' body and the fur you want to remove, and your fingers holding the fur you want to snip.
