Question
What is the genotype of the thriantra rabbit?  It appears to be a self red rather than a wide band agouti.

Answer
Brian...If you believe the British rabbit Council, from whenst we got the Thrianta, their web site says it is:
A-B-C-D-ee +++rufus and/or umbrous modifiers
Thus your statement about it not being a wideband would be correct. However, the statement that it is a self red would suggest it ia aaB_C_D_ee and that would clearly be a Tort, and with many rufus modifiers (I'd guess the full complement of ++++) perhaps the shading would diminish to the point of disappearing. I can let you know more after I cross to them in developing my Tan Minirex..which will tell me (1) if they are Agouti and (2)if they are wideband (next month I'll get my F2 Thrianta/rex cross to start the work). I tend to believe it is A_B_C_D_eeww++++, and the belly not having an undercolor is why I say that. Yes, those with only ee also have little belly UC, but tan pattern who are ee usually do have some belly UC. It varies. I will better define it by fall when those litters start arriving. that is the best i can tell you right now. In any case, they carry many rufus modifiers, and I'd place it at +++ to ++++ without any research.. Our Tans and Belgian Hares tend to be +++ and some may be ++++, while the widebanded Flemish Sandy color shows only a + or maybe a ++.
Hope this helps you to think through it. Sorry I can't be more definitive. Till later, accept the British analysis. It is still a somewhat unknown in America..but I'll help define that is short order. Regards, Steve
