Dry Skin on Lop Ears

Question
Hi,
My 4 year old dwarf lop rabbit Charlie has got dry scaly skin on the outside of his ears. I took him to my vet for a check up and was told there is nothing wrong with Charlie (no signs of mites ect.)but was not given any advice on what to do.
Charlie is not at all bothered by this and is not scratching at all. I don't think he has actually noticed his dry ears.
I have been using a tea tree skin cream suitable for rabbits that I got from my pet shop but it doesn't seem to be working.
Charlie's ears look terrible! Can you help?

Answer
Dear Lucy,

Even though mites are not easily visible, they are probably present.  Cheyletiella (fur mites) cause flaky skin, but are not always easy to find!

If this were my rabbit, I would ask the vet about using some Revolution (selamectin) on him (it's topical), which will kill off any mites.  It's an excellent, safe drug for rabbits.

DO NOT use Frontline, which can be deadly!

Hope this helps.
