Worming Med for a Rab

Question
Greetings Dana,
What would you suggest to use for the general worming of a rabbit? How many times per year would you worm a rabbit? Thanks so much for your advise and time. Please keep updating the Rab Medicine treatments as they become available. Kathy

Answer
Dear Kathy,

I would not worm a rabbit without a fecal exam indicating that the rabbit has worms.  There are many different types of worms, and each has a specific type of medication that will work against it.  Rabbits are not like puppies and kittens, who need to be regularly wormed.

If you suspect your bunny may have worms, please get him to a good rabbit vet:

and bring a very fresh sample of poop pellets with you so that the vet can do a fecal flotation to test for worm eggs.  If they are present, appropriate treatment can be prescribed.

Hope that helps!

Dana
