Rabbit not interested in newborn babies

22 11:12:05

Question
Hello,
Our rabbbit gave birth two days ago. We have done all the right things like not touch the babies etc. But we have noticed the mother doesn't seem that "interested" in her babies. They are inside an enclosed part of the cage and the mother spends most of the day in the open part of the cage. We have not seen her enter the area with the babies yet (well at least during the day, when we are looking).

We have had a look and all the babies seem to be alive. They are all huddled together and moving around.

We are worried she isn't nursing them? Or does this sound quite normal?

Also, we have been feeding the mother grass, water and rabbit mix. Is there anything else we should give her to keep her healthy after the pregnancy?

Answer
Rabbits naturally only feed their babies once or twice a day, usually in the least active part of the day (which is the night for most households). If they are not looking very thin and inactive by now, she is feeding them.

She should be getting fresh grass hay or timothy hay, as well.
