Baby bunnies have dandruff

22 10:54:07

Question
I have 6 Lionhead kits--1 week old. They are just getting their fur and they seem to have severe dandruff. Is this normal? The mother looks fine, no dandruff. They are housed inside and I clean their nestbox every day. Thanks!

Answer
Dear Jessi,

Even very small babies can get fur mites, and this sounds like typical symptoms of this problem.

We have used Revolution (selamectin) on very small baby rabbits (even cottontails) with excellent results.  You need only one drop on the back of the neck, let it sit for about half an hour before putting baby back with mama, and that should do the trick.  Please also see:

for complete information and instructions.  You can find a good rabbit vet here:

Good luck!
