Question
Hi, my rabbit recently had babies, 2 days ago and now I have to face the fact that 5 of them have died, in the space of the day. There is 1 left and he seems fine (?) He responds to touch and is moving quite a bit but what would of happened to the rest? Whats the best thing I can do for the little one that is left?  Im devastated and just want some kind of help with trying to undersatnd.

Answer
Hi Cheryl,

It's very common to lose entire litters, especially when you are first starting out.  There are so many variables that it's impossible to suggest what the cause could be.

If you have another rabbit that has given birth I would suggest fostering the kit to the other doe, otherwise my suggestion is to just leave the kit with him mum and let nature takes it's course.  There is not much you can do.  I would however, pluck a bit more fur from the doe to cover the kit, he will feel the cold more now that he has no siblings to cuddle.

Cheers
