Question
I know rabbits are supposed to sleep a fair amount during the day but my rabbit seems to be sleeping more and more. She's a 1 year old French Lop and when I first got her she seemed to be up most of the day, then she started sleeping until 11am then 12 noon, then 1pm then 2pm and so on, and now she's sleeping until 7pm.
Is this normal? She seems relatively healthy otherwise but it's hard to spend time with a bunny that is nearly comatose.

Answer
Hi Dana,

my first inclination is to take her to your regular good rabbit vet.  Explain what you have been seeing.

A number of things should be considered.  Does she get a lot of exercise when you are not around?  Has the temperature gone up a lot lately?  Has she been a lot more active at night?  Maybe she is still sleeping the same amount of time, but the times she is sleeping have shifted.  Has the time periods you spend with her changed, perhaps she has adjusted her awake times to be more in sync with when you are up and around.

In any case, it may be a good time to have her checked out by a good rabbit vet, to make sure it isn't anything serious.  If you don't have one, start here:

and find a House Rabbit Society-recommended vet near you.
