Question
Hi, I have a mini lop rabbit and one of my other rabbits (male) who is older bit him in his two hind legs, like about the knees I think. He cannot walk with one of his legs. I think the skin is kind of rotten and it has worms or maggots in there. I do not what to do since I cannot take him to the vet because I do not have money for it. Can u give me a suggestion as to what give him in medicine and how to cure his legs.

I hate to say this but if a rabbit is already infested with maggots then it needs a vet.  The larvae can get underneath their skin and it is a very bad situation.

He is obviously suffering.  You can try penicillin cream for the wound but if it is rotten it probably isn't going to help.

Try to find a vet that will work out a payment plan for you.  Don't let him suffer please.  If the injury is as bad as it sounds and the flesh is literally rotting away then he needs antibiotic injections, and he will also need treatment for the maggots.

I understand what it is to be short on cash and I certainly don't mean to lecture but when you take an animal into your home you also take the responsibilities that come along with it.  Rabbits are not cheap and easy pets.  When they get sick it can be very costly because there aren't as many exotic animal vets as there are small animal vets.  To me it is no different than having a child.  If I take a rabbit it is for life and if they need medical care I find a way to afford it.

Please e-mail the closest House Rabbit Society to you.  Ask them for advice and if they know of a vet that will work with you.  Most of them will be willing to communicate with you through e-mail or over the phone.
