QuestionHi!
In the last week, my bunny has been getting alot of poop stuck around his
anus area and it builds up. This has never happened previously. We have
only had him alittle over a year. Does that area need to be cut short or do I
need to take him to a vet? His stools seem normal, just more than usual?
AnswerTo clean him up, you'll want to give him a butt bath. There are a couple methods of doing this. A dry bath and a wet bath. This site gives you some instructions for doing either method:

You'll need to clean him up everytime when he gets dirty.
The bigger question is why this is happening. You'll may need to do some detective work. It's not normal for this to happen suddenly.
One thing that you can do on your own is evaluate his diet. Has something changed in it recently? A fiber poor diet, or a diet with too much starch, or sometimes too many vegetables can cause messy poop that gets stuck to the butt.
This site talks about common problems with rabbit poop and potential causes:

And this one discusses diet: http://www.bio.miami.edu/hare/diet.html
If nothing seems amiss in his diet, you should probably take him to a vet to have your vet determine if there is a health problem that is causing this messy butt problem.
I hope this helps
