Question
MY BUNNY HAS A BALD SPOT ON HIS BACK RIGHT LEG. I DON'T KNOW IF IT IS SOAR OR WHAT IT IS, BUT HE TENDERS THAT LEG YOU YOU PICK HIM UP.HE WALKS FINE, JUMPS OK TOO, BUT I WANT TO KNOW IF HE IS OK. I PUT NEOSPORIN ON IT AND TRYED TO WRAP IT. THAT DID NOT GO OVER TO WELL WITH HIM. SO NOW ITS JUST THE NEOSPORIN. I'VE NEVER SEEN HIM BITING OR SCRACHING IT, BUT THAT DON'T MEAN HE DOESN'T DO IT. CAN YOU PLEASE HELP WITH ANY INFORMATION.

Answer
Dear Dustin,

If the bare skin is not an open sore, then don't use neosporin.  This might be a ringworm fungus, and this will require medication from a good rabbit vet.  Please find a vet here:

and read:

www.bio.miami.edu/hare/furloss.html

before you go, so you'll know what to ask.  If you don't know what has caused the bald spot, then you won't know how to treat it, so don't try to cure this at home. You could make matters worse instead of better.  There are many different possible causes of abnormal fur loss in rabbits, and getting the right treatment for the actual cause is critical. They're all different.

I hope this helps.
