Trimming rabbits nails

Question
I am trying to find a less stressful way to cut my Netherland Dwarf, 8 months old, rabbit's nails.  He does not like to be held and really fights to get away when we try to cut his nails. Even when my daughter holds him, he still is able to get away and we do not want to hold him so tightly that it hurts. He also makes noises when we try to do that so we think he must really be stressed since rabbits are usually pretty silent. Can you suggest something that would make this process a less grueling experience for all of us?  I watched some videos on the internet but they all show pretty compliant rabbits so we have a different case.  He is not afraid of us in any other situation, is being petted very often and loves it.  But holding him and trying to cut his nails is another story.
Thanks for any help you can give us!

Answer
Dear Beata,

Nail trimming with a wiggly bunny is really a pain.  The best solution might be for you to take him to a *very* rabbit-savvy vet who knows how to safely do this without allowing bun to injure himself, and the vet can show you some tricks.  If you've already watched videos on the internet, then you have seen the basic holding methods.

I'd suggest perhaps that one person hold bun firmly, but gently, on his back, and the other person trim with a guillotine-style trimmer.  These allow quicker nipping, and they don't pinch, which might help the bunny feel less stressed.

This might help:

Good luck!
