Should i get him neutered?

Question
Jack, Male Netherland Dwarf Rabbit, Medium Gray, 1 1/2 years old been living in our household for 9 months now. Used to be very calm and loving. Got our cousins rabbit pregnant and is now very aggressive. I heard that neutering rabbits may make them calmer. Should we? I'm not sure.

Answer
Hi,

there are a numberof positive reasons to get indoor house rabbits spayed/neutered.

First, it will cut aggression.  In both males and females.

Second, it will cut sexual frustration in males.

Third, it cuts the risk of testicular cancer out for males and is a life-doubling procedure for females (very high uterine cancer rate).

Fourth, you will not have any risks of unwanted pregnancies that balloon out of control.

Plus your rabbit is 1.5 years old.  He is young and hopefully healthy and should be able to bounce back from this without problems.

So yes, it is a good thing to do.  The KEY is going to a GOOD RABBIT VET.  Not all are.  Good rabbit vets have a long history of successful rabbit surgeries, and know that rabbits need both post op antibiotics and pain meds afterwards for at least 3-5 days.

To find a good rabbit vet near you, go to:

and find a House Rabbit Society-recommended vet.
