Question
Hi Amy,

I have a black dwarf rex male and I keep him inside as a house rabbit. I would like to know how to look after rex`s coats. Is there any special care needed? Also have you experienced any helth problems that are common for this breed?

Thank you

Silvia

Answer
Rex coats are actually very easy to care for, what I suggest is that about every 4-6 weeks, you take your rabbit out and set him on something solid like a table, get your hands damp (not dripping) and rub your hands from the head all the way to the butt, back and forth 6-7 times.  This removes dirt and  dead hair without bothering the rabbits skin.  Rex fur is easy to care for but take note that you do not ever want to get it wet (like a bath)because it can cause all sorts of problems for the rabbit.  Also this gives you and your bunny a good chance to get to know eachother, spend some time together and allows you to see if he has any lumps or bumps that may need further looked into.  I also use this time as  a chance to trim toenails and check teeth.

As far as health matters check out this website for a more detailed explination, Mini Rex and all other rabbits can get these so it is a good idea in my opinion to have a basic knowledge of rabbit illnesses just so you can spot a sign as early as possible.
