Question
QUESTION: Hi Dave-you may remember me...

Our rabbits had babies approx. 2 weeks ago and they just emerged from their burrow last Wednesday fully furred, eyes & ears open.
We are unsure of their genders and if they can breed together. If so, we would like to separate them.
When do we separate them?
SHOULD we separate them?
There is the mum, dad, and 4 (unknown genders) babies. Who should we separate from who???

Lolli :)

ANSWER: hi they must all satay with mum for at least 6 weeks then you sex them
and split them up.
keep a good eye on dad as he may attack them -i would remove him and just leave mum and babies.
they don't breed until 4 months old.

QUESTION: Ok... thank you. So-just to confirm that they cannot breed until 4 months and when they are that age to seperate the boys from the girls???? We also seperate the father from them all aswell??? But so far the father has been the BETTER parent out of them-do we still seperate???
Thanks heaps-Lolli

ANSWER: ok if the father is good i would just leave him with them but i would still split them up at 6 weeks old put all the bucks together and all the does together. leave mum and dad as they are but you must realize they may mate again.

QUESTION: Ok. But this is confusing. We are in bungalows and the backyard is a 5x5. There are walls on 3 sides and on the fourth we have wired off which is going onto the stairs leading up to the patio. If we are to separate the bucks from the does do we put the mama in with the girls and papa with the boys??
And how do we know if they are boys and girls? What age are they fully defined??? I've read through alot of website the differences but I'm scared.....
Thank you for all your help Dave :)
Lolli :)

Answer
you can keep all the babys together until they get to 12 weeks old then you must have boys and girls seperate-i would not put the adults with them after 6 weeks old.
they can be sexed at about 2 weeks old but it is difficult if you are not a breeder.
either get an experienced breeder or the local vet to sex them for you.
