QuestionHELLO DR. MY YOUNG LIONHEAD [SWEETYPIE] IS HAVING BABIES.YESTERDAY SHE BUILT HER NEST AND LAST NIGHT AROUND 10;00 SHE PASSED MUCUS, BLOOD SPOTS AND STARTED HAVING WHAT LOOKS LIKE CONTRACTIONS. IT IS NOW 4;00 IN THE AFTERNOON-THE NEXT DAY, STILL SPOTTING,AND CONTRACTIONS,,I CAN FEEL THE BABIES MOVING INSIDE HER. IS ALL OF THIS NORMAL? IS THIS MUCH TIME PASSING BEFORE BIRTH NORMAL? DOES SHE NEED A VET? THANKYOU SO MUCH-SIGNED NERVOUS GRANDMA.
AnswerDear Lisa,
This is the sort of situation that should be taken straight to the vet, not to the internet, as my instructions clearly state. I hope she is okay now, but she should not be in labor this long. Please find an emergency vet here, if possible:
www.rabbit.org/vets
and get her there ASAP if she has not yet given birth. She may need a C-section, and should be spayed at the same time, since she obviously is not a great candidate for motherhood, physically speaking.
I hope she will be okay.
