Hi, I need an advise about my bunny he is 10weeks old I got him around 2 weeks ago and he didn't have much contact with human before I got him, and he seems to be very scare of me and husband. he doesn't like to be hold or hug, he will run when we try to pet him, however he likes to run around us and likes to lick my hands my legs. but he doesn't like to be touch.
his heart beat so fast when I hold him.
I would like to know what can I do to make him feel happier and bond to us, I don't want him to be scare.
I hope you could help me.

Answer
Hi Jess,

it takes a long time for a new rabbit to feel secure in a new home with new people.  Takes months to build up a basic level of trust to people.  DOn't try to pick him up that much at all.  He will learn to avoid you because he thinks you will pick him up.  Let him come to you, licking you is a great sign.  Just pet him, get down on his level (floor) and let him get used to you.  You have a pet that is not a lap pet, but will enjoy having fun with you and let you pet him and he'll like you on the floor with him.  He may even hop on your back.

Rabbits are prey animals, it takes a long time to develop trust.  Patience is key.  Spend time on the House Rabbit Society web site (www.rabbit.org) and pick up the books I mention in my profile information.
