Question
i currently own two dwarf bunnies; of course my girlfriend and i follow all of the rules and we have them both in separate houses and cages. recently we wanted them to have a play date. now we let them out and they began running at each other it seemed as if they were fighting because they running away from each other and it seemed as if they were biting each other. so how do i know if they are just playing or fighting?

Answer
Hi Henry. It is very possible that the two bunnies were testing each other. If they were running at each other with their ears pinned down against their backs and their tails held high and heads down, they were not playing. You might try setting their cages side by side for a while before you let them out the next time or switch them into each others cage for a while before letting them out. This will give them a chance to become familiar with each others scent and perhaps reduce the desire to dominate each other. Make sure that you let them play in an area that is not familiar ground to one of them. This will cause the one to want to claim his territory and not let the other one in it. Try it slowly for a few times and see how they work out. If things don't get better let me know and we will try something else.  Pat
