House Rabbit Aggression nipping my leg when playing

22 10:02:40

Question
We have  a rabbit in the house temp for about two weeks now because of the other rabbit pulling hair off of it.  We are unsure of the sex of either but when we had it out tonight and were (what we though playing) it started running around us while we were sitting and would nip our leg.  The when I kneeled down in front of it it jumped up and bit my leg (almost like mounting) What is this behavior and how do we stop it.  The rabbit is starting to exhibit some of the nipping when I pet it in the cage.

Answer
Dear Steph,

It's time to have both rabbits neutered/spayed.  The behaviors you describe (including the fighting between the rabbits) is due to sexual maturity and sex hormones, and yes, the bunny will mount you and grab you as if you were another rabbit.  The sex drive makes them crazy, and the only way for them to have peace and a happy life (and any possibility of getting along) is to have them both fixed.  Please see:

and find a good rabbit vet here:

Once both bunnies have been snipped and healed, you can find articles here to help you bond them again:

Good luck!
